A natural product extracted from sugar cane with remarkable lipid lowering properties. Policosanol has been shown in a number of studies to be effective in managing cholesterol.
PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Policosanol is a natural product extracted from sugar cane with remarkable lipid lowering properties. Although the mechanism for cardiovascular support of policosanol remains unclear, it may act by providing antioxidant protection, promoting healthy platelet function, and supporting healthy lipid metabolism. At 40mg per day, policasanol may support healthy triglyceride metabolism in some individuals.
INDICATIONS
Elevated cholesterol levels, intermittent claudication and platelet aggregation.

WARNINGS
Do not allow total cholesterol to drop to below 4mmol/l. Always consult your health professional if you are seriously ill.
INTERACTIONS
May enhance the effects of other cholesterol-lowering substances.
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Insufficient reliable evidence exists; avoid using.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS OF USE
Take two capsules per day in divided doses. If the desired results are not obtained within 8 weeks, the daily dose can be increased to four capsules per day. Optimum cholesterol levels are generally regarded as 5 to 5.2 mmol/l.

KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT
In studies with animals, dosages of up to 500mg per kg body mass were administered with no reports of toxicity or carcinogenicity. In human studies, 20mg-40mg per day were administered daily for two years with good tolerability and no adverse effects.
