Buffered vitamin C capsules with pure grape seed extract. Contains both water- and fat soluble forms of vitamin C.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant in the aqueous phase of the body. In this process it is converted into the inactive and pro-oxidant form. Vitamin C is therefore combined with grape seed pro-anthocyanidin extract which serves to regenerate the active form of vitamin C. The vitamin C is present in a buffered form which prevents local over acidification and excessive acidification of the urine.
The water soluble form of vitamin C is further combined with the fat soluble form L-ascorbyl palmitate to also provide vitamin C activity in the lipid phases of the body.
Grape seed extract is a powerful antioxidant in its own right. The proanthocyanidins therein are widely used to strenghten arterial walls, to treat capillary fragility and in the treatment of eye disorders. As antioxidant, proanthocyanidins help to prevent oxidation of cholesterol thus reducing the level of artery-damaging oxycholesterol.
Because of the powerful antioxidant and anti-free radical action of the ingredients, the product may be beneficial in a wide variety of diseases including coronary heart disease, diabetes, cancer, asthma and allergies as well as against infections including colds and flu when used correctly. The latter has been verified in various clinical studies.
Patients with a history of kidney disease must use the product with care and preferably under medical supervision. Patients with intestinal ulceration must consult their health professional before using the product.
Vitamin C may increase chromium absorption (Trace elements Electrolytes 1994, 11:178). Supplemental vitamin C improves absorption of non-haem iron (Public Health Nutr. 2000, 3:105). Vitamin C supplements may destroy dietary vitamin B12 if taken together with food (JAMA 1974, 230:241). When taken concurrently with oral contraceptives, vitamin C may increase estrogen levels by up to 55% (Br. Med. J. Clin Res. Ed, 1981, 282:1516). High doses of vitamin C may reduce the response to warfarin by reducing warfarin absorption (Toxicol. Appl. Pharmacol. 1975, 31:544).
PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
Do not exceed normal dosage levels during pregnancy or lactation.
DOSAGE AND DIRECTIONS OF USE
Take four capsules once a day. During infections (e.g. colds and flu) up to 12 capsules can be used daily in divided doses for a few days subject to the bowel tolerance limit. The product should preferably not be taken with meals.
SIDE EFFECTS AND SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
KNOWN SYMPTOMS OF OVERDOSAGE AND PARTICULARS OF ITS TREATMENT
Very high doses (e.g. 15g vitamin C per day) may cause diarrhoea in some patients (the bowel tolerance limit). This is harmless and disappears when the dose is lowered. Individual bowel tolerance limits vary widely and in some patients it may be as low as 5g.
Securitainer containing 120 capsules.
