PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION Vitamin E is a universal antioxidant, and supports many redox systems in the body (Am J Clin Nutr 2001,74:714). It suppresses oxidative damage in the body (Pharmacists Letter 2000, 16:160. It also suppresses viruses and bacteria and is a general stimulant of the immune system (Int J Cancer, 2000, 86:276). It may be of value in the treatment and prevention of cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases including macular degeration (Neurol India 1978, 26:171). It may also be of value in the management of Alzheimers disease (New Engl J Med 1997, 336:1216).
INDICATIONS To assist in maintaining normal vitamin E levels.

INTERACTIONS Vitamin E may reduce absorption of beta-carotene (Am J Clin Nutr 1983, 38:559). It also inhibits platelet aggregation and may therefore interact with anticoagulant drugs. It suppresses iron absorption in serverly anemic children (J Lab Clin Med 1969, 74:789).
