Selenaid™, Powerful Immune System Support Against Viral Attack
“The host is more important than the invader” – Louis Pasteur.
The world is gripped by a mysterious Coronavirus pandemic that has shaken our reality and forever changed millions of lives. The full impact on world economies, breadwinners, ourselves and our loved ones is still unknown.
Our heartfelt well-wishes go to those caring for someone or themselves struggling with the disease, and we convey our sincerest condolences to all those dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Currently, the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has no specific medicine for treatment, and a vaccine against the virus (SARS-CoV-2) is a year or more away from development. Rather than come up with new drugs from scratch, doctors and scientists are looking at existing drugs used to treat similar viruses in the past such as middle eastern respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Chloroquine, Hydroxychloroquine & HIV drugs
Among the drugs being tested are Chloroquine and Hydroxychloroquine, two closely related drugs long used to treat malaria. There is strong evidence that both drugs kill the COVID-19 virus in the laboratory with many studies now underway to determine whether the drugs work in people with COVID-19. Small-scale preliminary results are promising, but we look forward to more solid answers in the coming months.
The World Health Organisation is also fast-tracking research into two drugs used to treat HIV (Ritonavir and Lopinavir), but early results are not very encouraging.
Please keep in mind that even the best research and data is preliminary and is continually revised as the pandemic progresses. For the most up-to-date news and information about the coronavirus pandemic, visit the World Health Organisation (WHO) website.
Complementary Medicines
The novel coronavirus is highly infectious and spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth, making it very difficult to prevent transmission of the virus.
Directly treating the disease is not possible and so our strategy must adapt, which is when we must recognise our dependence on immediately available complementary medicines. Current treatment avenues are limited to relieving the symptoms of COVID-19, assisting the body with healing and recovery, and boosting the immune system against viral attack.
The focus of this article is primarily on boosting the immune system due to the significant benefits of a strengthened and supported immune system. This brings us to what we believe is the best available option for immune system support in South Africa: SELENAID™.
Selenaid™
SELENAID™ is a selenium based nutritional supplement formulated to improve immunity and healing in the human body. It was conceived and developed as an antiviral compound that can help win the war against HIV/AIDS.
The selenium in SELENAID™ is known to be involved in the innate and adaptive immune responses, incorporation into selenoproteins, and aiding the manufacture of the essential antioxidant glutathione. Boosting glutathione levels is believed to reduce oxidative stress.
Oxidative Stress
Two factors are required for any virus to develop into severe disease:
- The virus must be present, and;
- the condition of the patient must favour the reproduction of the virus.
Oxidative stress, free radicals and antioxidants are crucial factors to take into account when considering the nature and impact of viral infections, as well as their treatment. Oxidative stress in cells is a harmful condition associated with an imbalance between excess free radicals (harmful substances that influence normal cell function) and protective antioxidants.
Contributing factors include diet, lifestyle, the environment, smoking and the consumption of alcohol (particularly in excess), as well as viral or other infections. Long-term oxidative stress contributes to the development of chronic conditions like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, arthritis, ageing and more.
When the concentration of free radicals in the body is excessive, it may cause damage to the cells, thereby resulting in serious complications. Antioxidants neutralise these free radicals and, therefore, may protect your cells.
SELENAID™ is a patented antiviral compound providing all the essential building blocks, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals to protect your body against harmful free radicals.
Ingredients
SELENAID™ contains the following ingredients:
- Organic, biologically-absorbable and acceptable selenium compounds in synergistic combination with one or more substances enhancing physiological absorption.
- Biologically-absorbable and acceptable;
- sources of precursors of glutathione (GSH);
- blood alkalinity enhancing components, and;
- anti-mutagenic compounds.
- Gastrointestinal absorption enhancers for selenium.
- Gastrointestinal protectors.
- Essential vitamins and minerals.
Antioxidant Treatment Against The Coronavirus per The Wuhan, China Experience
The Wuhan, China, experience strongly suggests that a relationship exists between oxidative stress and the symptoms of COVID-19.
Minor symptoms are seen in most children infected with COVID-19, and very few children younger than 10-years of age require hospitalisation. Children have low levels of oxidative stress, with these levels being the lowest at birth and increasing at around 30-years of age.
Oxidative stress levels are particularly high at 60-years of age and, according to the Wuhan death and comorbidity statistics, patients who died had an average age of 75 years. Most of these patients had underlying diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma and heart disease. These conditions in themselves cause oxidative stress, which reduces resistance to the virus.
For this reason, older people with chronic illnesses are the most vulnerable and susceptible to developing severe complications from COVID-19.
The Potential of Antioxidant Treatment for Coronavirus
High oxidative stress aggravates viral infection symptoms and complications. Patients with high levels of oxidative stress, especially the elderly, are most likely to show severe symptoms.
Reducing oxidative stress reduces inflammation and cell and organ damage, especially that caused by viral pneumonia in the lungs. The reduction of oxidative stress also increases overall immunity, and antioxidants may protect from mild or moderate viral infection.
All other groups of patients with high oxidative stress levels (sufferers of diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma, heart disease and the elderly) may also benefit from taking antioxidant treatment.
Dosage
The recommended preventative dosage level is 5 capsules twice a day. Patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 should take 8 capsules twice a day, under medical supervision. SELENAID™ should be taken in conjunction with a high dosage of high-quality vitamin C.
Most vitamin C products available on the South African market contain only its water-soluble form, ascorbic acid. FortiFood Vita-C Naartjie is a buffered powder that contains both fat and water-soluble forms of vitamin C and is formulated with additional synergistic ingredients.
